The diagram would then be considered as a graphical illustration of the data flow and ebb that forms part of a certain system. The mind maps or the diagram can help in the visualization of the data processing stages. Through the mind maps, any change in the data will be easily understood. Some people call the diagrams or mind maps as process diagrams.

Anyone can use the diagrams and so any individual can use graphics or text depending on the need. A DFD can differ from another DFD created by another individual, depending on how individuals use it and for what purpose it was used. The reason why lots of people prefer the diagrams or mind maps is because they find it hard to understand textual descriptions as compared to graphical representations which are much easier to understand.

Occupational fields also use mind maps, especially in engineering and science. Mind maps are also very important when it comes to teaching certain disciplines because the diagrams make it easier for the instructors to understand the thought processes of different groups.

The medical industry also makes use of mind maps and DFDs especially in visualizations. There are even times when it involves software to help those in the medical field understand the progress or nature of different diseases. Many doctors have successfully utilized the mind maps and DFDs to treat diseases because they were able to identify the right treatments and they were able to monitor the disease’s progress.

Creative Thinking and Mind Mapping – Part 1 Getting Started

Creative Thinking and Mind Mapping

mind mapping, creative thinking, success coach, life coach

Innovative thinking can benefit greatly from mind mapping because it is able to consume all the common skills found in imagination, creativity, flexibility, and organization of ideas. There are some fundamental elements that you need to know if you want to improve your creative thinking. According to psychological research, these elements include using shapes, colors, unusual elements, and dimensions. Aside from that, it also involves the adjustment of the conceptual positions and it also considers the response to emotionally pleasing objects.

According to further studies, mind maps are the best tools in nurturing creative thinking. If you try to apply mind mapping in any of your activities, you will be able to create lots of innovative ideas than what you’ve expected.

In Mind Mapping and Creative Thinking

There are different stages. In the first stage, you can start by drawing a central image to represent a general topic. Make sure that the image is drawn at the center of the paper or a blank page. Try to focus in the image and take note of the ideas that come into your mind. Welcome all ideas that enter your mind and indicate it on paper. You don’t have to write a lot of text; in fact, it will be a lot better if you use graphics or drawings instead. Take note of all the ideas no matter how absurd they may seem.

After that, you need to take a break so that your brain can also rest. Look at the ideas that you’ve generated. Get another blank paper and create a new mind map. Use the same central image but this time you need to identify the categories and major branches. You need to build up the hierarchies and look for new associations of the preliminary ideas. If you see repetitions of ideas in different branches, disregard them and don’t try to remove them because they might be important later on.

Your mind map will reflect your current thoughts. Study it carefully and you will be able to explore intellectually, making room for growth. When your mind is at rest, for example when you’re sleeping, you must take note of creative realizations. These are sudden bursts of ideas and you should immediately indicate it in your mind map. You need to reconstruct your mind maps and integrate all the ideas into one map.

The goal in creating the mind map is to look for decisions, realizations, or solutions. Examine your mind map again and look for breakthroughs or new insights. Soon you will realize that all the ideas are connected with each other and you will be able to find the answer that you’re looking for through the mind maps.

In creating mind maps, you will go through the different stages. If you find difficulty in one stage, don’t give up and try to continue making the maps. Follow the step above and soon, you will have a mind map of your own. When you’re in the process of creating the maps, you will notice that you’re creative thinking is already at a high level.

Making mind maps are one way of enhancing an individual’s creative thinking. Adults find it hard to use creative thinking because they are more rational thinkers but you shouldn’t be discouraged in exploring this portion of your mind. You will soon realize that it will be the key in solving your problems and in achieving your goals.

A Change in Career a Change in You

A Change in Career a Change in You

Career Change, career coach, personal coach, life coach

For the majority of us that start out in the career path we inevitably end up in a job of some kind or another. I say this because very few people of maturity are in the same jobs they started, why? Because we all have an inbuilt desire to be successful, as time goes by we get more desperate with our results and we move from one job to another, thinking this is the one, this is my career only to end up in another working environment that gradually wanes until we start looking for another job or career.

Some of us are lucky (or unlucky) enough to start our own business, we work all the hours under the sun and moon and think that this is it, this is going to make me, I will be happy and have no worries about bills and the future. Sadly,it’s not quite like that. If you’re into manual labour you generally end up with no money and all sorts of ailments like back pain, trapped nerves (very painful!) or even the odd limb missing. All from slogging your guts out 24/7! And if you do find that job you always wanted?

Are you still there? I’ll bet you’re not or you won’t be in the near future. Why? Because you aren’t getting the appreciation you feel you deserve, you know you do a good job, and you know you could do it better but something’s stopping you, stopping you from progressing and stopping you.

Why is this? Have we been brought up to be like this? For the average person we weren’t taught how to look after our bodies or our minds at school, we were doing homework on Arithmetic’s, English, French, Geology and Physics to name a few, all good if you knew what you were going to do in life! Society didn’t teach us how making money or be happy or to look after ourselves, it just taught the basics so that we could fit in.

A Change in Career is a new Change within You

But fitting in doesn’t work!…..we all have that built in desire to be successful, to be better than we are, it’s only with us for a certain period of time and you know when it’s running out, it’s inbuilt, we are human and it’s natural. You have to take a look at yourself and almost go back to school, your school! Do it the way you want to be taught not how society taught you.

Your school, what is your school?……….It’s anything you want it to be!

You just need knowledge, only WITH THIS TIME its knowledge you want to learn and you can get enthralled in. You can work any amount of hours in the day as little or as much as you want, but the big difference is that you will be enthralled with your new venture, you will want to work all the hours life allows (and your family) and the appreciation will come from yourself.

Your life that has passed by (which goes too quick in my book) has gained you a wealth of knowledge that YOU know, that you can pass on to others that need that information.

Information that is valuable and easy for you to convey to others, it’s called a niche.

So you see, to all those out there with yearn and the willpower (and we all have it, it’s natural) you have an opportunity that no society has had before us. The world is a small village, and the reason for that s…………………….. the INTERNET.

5 Tips for Estimating Your Start-up Costs

5 Tips for Estimating Your Start-up Costs

small business, small business ideas, start a small business

Most business start-up stories say that you have to have a business plan. And you do. But that’s not the beginning and the end of figuring out your start-up costs.

Before you take out a second mortgage, use these rules to figure out the real costs of setting up a business.

Develop a Solid Plan — Then Change It

Most business start-up stories say that you have to have a business plan. And you do. But that’s not the beginning and the end of figuring out your start-up costs.

Jeff Shuman, who directs entrepreneurial studies at Bentley College, says, “The conventional wisdom is that an entrepreneur sees an opportunity, comes up with a business plan to capitalize on it, determines the capital that needs to be raised, raises the capital and then applies it to building the business described in the business plan.”

There’s one major problem with that model, says Shuman. It all hinges on getting the business right the first time, and that doesn’t often happen. “In reality, it’s likely that some of your initial assumptions are pretty good and others aren’t going to be worth the paper they’re written on,” he says.

Shuman and others say that figuring out your start-up costs means regularly reviewing your assumptions and changing your initial model. Writing a plan is good because it forces you to write down everything you are going to need to start your business.

But that initial plan is likely to change repeatedly as you learn new things and incorporate them into the plan.

Be Willing to Pull Back
It’s tempting to add up everything you need for the full-fledged business you imagine, and decide it’s what you need to start out.

But pulling back and looking for a smaller model can give you a way to get started while also saving money. Shuman uses the example of someone who calculates the total cost of starting a retail business in a local shopping centre.

“You could start that way and write a business plan based on that amount,” he says. “But maybe you’d be better off renting a stand and testing what the demand is for your products at that location.”

This consumer testing reduces your initial start-up costs. The result is that the initial cycle of your business is dedicated not so much to generating profits as to generating information. “With this, you can fund your business on a cycle-by-cycle basis,” Shuman says. “When you go for the second cycle and for expanding your business, the numbers are now based not on focus groups or surveys but on real-world experience.”

Calculate Prices and Time Correctly
Calculating your initial cash flow is part of figuring out your start-up costs. It’s an area where businesses are sometimes less optimistic than they should be. “Small business owners may under-price their product or service, thinking they have to come in at the lowest price point to compete,” says Barbara Bird, who chairs the business management program at an American university. “They don’t necessarily need to do that.”

Correctly Estimate Your Start-up Time
Yes, when beginning a business, time can be money. Let’s say you’re going to have fixed costs such as a monthly lease. If you have to make improvements to a space before you can actually open for business, those fixed costs are going to be additional start-up costs until you can actually open for business. I’ve watched many entrepreneurs draw up a timeline for their ventures and get tripped up on the safety and inspection requirements imposed by local agencies.

For that reason, I think one of the first places a prospective new business owner should go is to the local government planning or license department. Construction permits and inspections can push a prospective opening date back by months. If you fail to take into account the cost of this time, you could be short of working capital right at the start.

Be Realistic About the Cost of Money
Many small business owners finance their ventures by running up big balances on their personal credit cards. Others tap the equity in their homes.

But self-financing isn’t a practical option for larger ventures. Tom Emerson, who directs the entrepreneurship centre at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, says startups should figure in the cost of capital when determining initial expenses and cash flow. “The cost is usually based on what the interest would be, were that cash invested in something with similar risk on the market” Emerson says. “It’s usually a figure that is a few percentage points or more above the prime rate.”

Self-Improvement “What Really Makes You Tick?” 10 Questions You Should Ask Yourself

“What Really Makes You Tick?” 10 questions you should ask yourself: in preparation to self-improvement

Be all you can be, but it’s not always in the Army. Do You often see yourself as somewhat contented with my life the way things are, but of course it’s hard to think of anything else when where are real issues to be discussed.  Business Coaches are always faced with the following questions from clients somewhere during a 12 to 20 week coaching program.

Still You aspire for something deeper and more meaningful.  business coach, self-improvement

So we’re all pelted with problems. Honestly it shouldn’t even bother or even hinder us to becoming all we ought to be. Aspirations as kids should continue to live within us, even though it would be short-lived or as long as we could hold on to the dream. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks… or can they?

10 Questions You Should Ask Yourself:

1. What do I really want?
The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.

Find something that you are good at can help realize that small step towards improvement. Diligence is the key to know that it is worth it.

2. Should I really change?
Today’s generation has taken another level of redefining ‘self’, or at least that’s what the kids are saying. Having an army of teenage nieces and nephews has taught me that there are far worse things that they could have had than acne or maybe even promiscuity. So how does that fit into your lifestyle?

If history has taught us one thing, it’s the life that we have gone through. Try to see if partying Seventies style wouldn’t appeal to the younger generation, but dancing is part of partying. Watch them applaud after showing them how to really dance than break their bones in break-dancing.

3. What’s the bright side in all of this?
With so much is happening around us there seem to be no room for even considering that light at the end of the tunnel. We can still see it as something positive without undergoing so much scrutiny. And if it’s a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!

4. Am I comfortable with what I’m doing?
There’s always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn’t take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else we’ll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.

5. Have I done enough for myself?
Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you’ll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.

6. Am I happy at where I am today?
It’s an unfair question so let it be an answer! You love being a good and loving mom or dad to your kids, then take it up a notch! Your kids will love you forever. The same goes with everyday life!

7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?
So maybe I don’t have an answer to that, but that doesn’t mean I can’t try it, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.

8. How much could I have?
I suppose in this case there is no such things on having things too much or too little, but it’s more on how badly you really need it. I’d like to have lots of money, no denying that, but the question is that how much are you willing to work for it?

9. What motivates me?
What motivates you? It’s an answer you have to find out for yourself. There are so many things that can make everyone happy, but to choose one of the may be the hardest part. It’s not like you can’t have one serving of your favorite food in a buffet and that’s it. Just try it piece by piece.

10. What Really Makes You Tick?
So? What really makes you tick? You can be just about anything you always wanted to be, but to realize that attaining something that may seem very difficult is already giving up before you even start that journey.

Always remember, that self-improvement is not just about the physical or philosophical change you have to undergo, but it’s something that you really want.  A business coach can help guide you into the self-improvement you seek.

5 Reasons Why the Right Point of Sale Equipment Increases Profits

The right point of sale equipment hardware and software can increase your bottom line.

Whether you own a restaurant or a retail outlet, the right point of sale (POS) hardware and software can increase your bottom line.pos, point of sale equipment, point of sale hardware

Here are five reasons why:

1. Return on Investment. While there are POS systems at many different price points, there are inexpensive software solutions that have great functionality, work with a wide variety of types of hardware, and can integrate with other business software. For example, if you are looking for pizza shop software, Point of Success is a low-priced restaurant POS software package that has a wide range of features. Similarly, Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (also known as Microsoft RMS) is a cost-effective solution for a clothing boutique.

2. Enhance Customer Service. If you’re a restaurateur or a retailer, your relationships with your customers are paramount. POS equipment can ensure that your employees can spend more time interacting with customers and less time entering information into equipment. Restaurant POS software, for example, allows employees to enter and track orders, so mistakes are minimized and customers aren’t kept waiting. Similarly, retail point of sale software can give your staff immediate access to availability, prices, and the location of inventory. This means that your customers can get a high level of service, increasing the likelihood of repeat business.

3. Increase Efficiency. If you can increase the efficiency of your restaurant or retail store, you’ll soon see increased profits through a decrease in staffing costs, losses due to errors, and improved accountability. Microsoft POS, for example, allows your employees to quickly and efficiently check out customer purchases with built-in credit and debit card processing. It also enables you to do everything from tracking work hours with a time clock to tracking cashier tasks. This kind of transparency enables you to make informed decisions about policies and procedures, as well as to track problems back to their source.

4. Lower Training Costs. With point of sale equipment, software and hardware, you have a standardized training approach for your employees. By customizing the software to correspond to your menu items, for example, a trainee can quickly and easily enter orders. That same software can print preparation tickets or display orders on a kitchen monitor. With pizza shop software, you can easily train delivery drivers to pick up delivery dispatches and note their availability when they return from deliveries.

5. Improved Reporting. One of the primary benefits of point of sale software is its reporting capability. Better reporting gives you the information you need to do everything from making buying decisions to preparing your tax returns. Reporting capabilities vary from software package to software package, and the type of business you have will most likely dictate the type of software you need. For example, Microsoft POS and Microsoft RMS both allow you to manage and track inventory, generate purchase orders, track customer purchase histories, and track employee hours. Microsoft RMS offers even more reporting options, including customized reports, the ability to track backorders and layaways, and the capability to manage account receivables of customers.

That is Why the Right Point of Sale Equipment Increases Profits

The importance of point of sale equipment and software can’t be overstated. It may seem like a significant investment, but it will more than pay for itself with increased sales, efficiency, and reporting.

Deliver An Elevator Speech That Grabs Attention and Has Them Begging For More!

Deliver An Elevator Speech That Grabs Attention!

When someone asks you what you do, do you stammer and stutter, then spurt out a label or winded explanation that meets you with a glazed-over look? Discover how a powerful elevator speech can generate energetic dialogues that will increase your recognition and attract more clients.

An elevator speech is a short verbal snippet that clearly and memorably introduces you.  It highlights your uniqueness and focuses on the benefits you provide.

Imagine … you step onto an elevator and there is a lone occupant waiting to travel with you to another floor.

You are together for less than a minute, but long enough to make polite conversation.

What you don’t know is this person is your ideal client. She has a problem you can solve.

She cuts through the awkward silence and says, “I see you’re attending the networking event as well.  What do you do?”

Here it is!  Your chance to make an impression and secure a new client.

After a short stammer, you answer with, “I’m a coach and a copywriter. I hold a Masters in Business Administration and have been running my own home-based business for ten years.”

With only a few seconds left, the elevator doors open.  She politely responds with a smile, then steps off the elevator, gone … forever.

After you finish banging your head against the button panel, you realize you not only blew it, but you now have an indentation of the twenty-first floor button on your forehead.

Deliver An Elevator Speech That Grabs Attention and Has Them Begging For More Like:    What if instead you had answered with…

“I help women entrepreneurs get more clients than they know what to do with and triple their profits in six months.”

If she were your target client, do you think the second response would have sparked her interest and kept her on that elevator a little bit longer?

We all ask ourselves, “What’s in it for me?” when engaged in any type of communication, whether written or spoken.

You want to take something of value from a conversation, learn something new, create a certain feeling, or receive information that will help you solve a problem or meet a need.

If you spend the first 30 seconds labeling yourself and listing your credentials, or going into a technical spiel of your product or service, you will be met with nothing more than a big fat yawn, a glazed-over look or even worse, “Excuse me, I have to make a call” and a quick exit.

Take the time to develop a benefit-rich, passionate elevator speech that will engage your listeners to want to hear more.

Write down a list of benefits your clients/customers receive from working with you or buying from you, and use those words and phrases in your benefit statement.

There’s no need to label yourself. Labels don’t provide the benefits the listener is looking for.

Once you have your elevator speech developed, practice it over and over until it’s as natural as stating your name.  You’ll be able to use it at networking events, in a telephone conversation, when leaving voice mail messages, in any type of written communication, and yes, especially in the elevator!

So, ____________, what do you do?
